HCJ CPAs & Advisors & Co. is proud to share that Karen Garrett, CPA, Mark Glover, CPA, and Brooke Horvath, CPA recently participated in the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA) Employee Benefit Plans Conference.

The conference took place on Thursday, April 25 at the ASCPA facility in Little Rock. Mark and Brooke led a session on How to Adequately Test Distributions & Loans to Pass Peer Review & DOL Inspections; Karen sat on an Ask the Experts panel.

“I was very pleased to be able to attend this year’s EBP Conference,” Karen, managing partner of HCJ CPAs & Advisors. “I consider it an honor being asked to participate in a teaching capacity, and I was happy to do it.”

The EBP Conference exists to educate accounting and business professionals on the most current information and support regarding handling employee benefits. The event included a wide variety of sessions on many topics surrounding employee benefit plans. Attendees had the opportunity to earn up to 8.0 CPE credits in accounting and auditing.

A member of the HCJ CPAs & Advisors team since 1996, Karen holds a wealth of valuable experience. She specializes in a wide variety of areas, including audit, multi-state taxation, employee benefit plans, and self-insurance trusts. She is a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas. Karen is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), ASCPA, the Greater Little Rock Class XIX, and the board of the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre. She lives in Conway with her husband, Mike. Together they have two daughters, Megan and Isabelle.

A HCJ CPAs & Advisors principal, Mark has been with the firm since 2009. His primary areas of service include employee benefit plans, not-for-profits, school districts, manufacturers, and the healthcare industry. He is a member of the AICPA, the ASCPA, the board of Harmony Health Clinic, and Immanuel Baptist Church. Mark and his wife, Brooke, live together in Little Rock with their two daughters, Addison and Harper.

Brooke has been with HCJ CPAs & Advisors since 2012 and was recently promoted to manager. Her focus lies in performing audits of employee benefit plans, non-profit and government entities, and small businesses. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration, both from Henderson State University. She is currently affiliated with the AICPA, the ASCPA, and the ASCPA’s Emerging CPAs Committee. Born and raised in Benton, Arkansas, Brooke resides there to this day, now with her husband, Brandon.
